Went to all the schools in Zone6 this morning to get pictures of them for this web site.
I thought I had a map of where to go in my head when I started but as I was leaving one school I would remember another one I had forgotten. And as it turns out there was one I missed - Ottawa Technical Learning Centre. After all there are 17 schools in Zone6 making it one of the most populous. It stretches form Rockcliffe Park PS in the north to Charles H. Hulse PS in the south at Alta Vista Rd and Bank St. A distance of only 8.3 km as the crow flies but after weaving to get to all 17 schools the odometer showed I had traveled just over 50 km. Of course distance wise this is nothing compared to some of the rural zones. But it was a nice morning and a good excuse to be out on the motorcycle.
The thing that struck me most was how quite the schools were at this time of the year. Once again it got me wondering how we can put the facilities to use. For schools with Daycare facilities there was some activity and at Alta Vista PS kids were playing in the wading pool in the park next to the school.
I remember when I was in elementary school there were programs run out of the schools by the city. But that was 45 years ago.
Still it is a shame to have the facilities sitting idle.
