Although I believe I would make a fine trustee there are projects I can return to now that I will not be one. This web site being one of those projects.

Went to all the schools in Zone6 this morning to get pictures of them for this web site.

Trustee and SEAC Ad Hoc Committee members disagree with District staff over wording.

Observed the Sept. 12 2011 Special Education Policy Ad Hoc committee.

The previous meeting section 1. of the consultation plan was discussed and the committee decided that, “To request input regarding possible changes to the Policy on Special Education and such other policy changes which may improve service to special education students and request solutions to identified problems.” should be the text to the question, "WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTATION?".

However at this meeting the text for section 1. as directed by district staff was "To request input regarding possible changes to Policy P.096.SES Special Education Programs and Services, which is the governing policy for special education."

Seems the difference in options is the committee members are wishing not to limit the input received where district staff is concerned the process will become unwieldy.

At issue is that a number of other policies have impact on Special Education students and may need consideration of changes. My understanding from previous discussions I heard was not to include, necessarily, changing those policies under this process but perhaps including something in the new Spec. Ed. policy or identify an issue so when, say the Transportation Policy, comes up for review the issue raised will be considered.

This will be addressed at the Sept. 13 board meeting where the consultation plan is expected to be approved. There will likely be an amendment to use the committee's preferred text for section 1.

Important date is Oct. 19 2011 when focus groups will be held. Once the consultation plan is approved more information will be available.
